Chapter One: Getting An Attitude Adjustment

There are basically four things you need to do to start on your way to having more stuff than your neighbor and showing him up at the Eagles club jamboree.  But first, you need an attitude adjustment.

In order for you to change your life for the better, you first have to WANT to change your life for the better.  You have to be so dissatisfied with the status quo that you absolutely, positively must make a change.  You have to want something to change so much that you ache for it.  It’s kind of like when you drink too much beer and then can’t excuse yourself to use the facilities.  If you’re not there yet, ask yourself if you are actually happy, and  just didn’t know it.

Hey, I don’t believe that everyone who reads self-help material is living a life of quiet desperation and borderline insanity.  Maybe you found this book in the library and like the pretty cover.  But if you aren’t totally satisfied with your life, you need to want a change.  Real bad.

It’s not important that you know what change you want yet, just that you don’t want to continue living your life as you have been.  If you can look in the mirror without laughing and say, I’m tired of living my life this way and I’m gonna to change it;  then you’re ready to be committed.

My publisher tells me that some of you may be offended by being told that you may be ready to be committed. Still as I sit in my padded cell, with my picture of a yard as viewed through a those beautiful double wide trailer windows, I’ll risk it.
